Les Claypool’s Frog Brigade Turn the Mission into a Zoo

Fearless Flying Frogs floated freely through the crowd as Animals took over everything at the Mission Ballroom on Sunday. Les Claypool has been showing up in Denver a lot lately- Sunday was the Frog Brigade’s second visit this year, and Les has played multiple nights in Denver over the past few years with his other “side-project,” Primus- check ’em out if you’ve missed them, ha! The Frog Brigade soared through a great set of Claypool originals and fun covers like “Mirror in the Bathroom” before mesmerizing the Mission with their spot-on recreation of Pink Floyd’s classic dystopian masterpiece, 1977’s Animals. As per usual, Les offered plenty of friendly stage banter, kidded guitarist Sean Lennon about the performance anxiety that he apparently inherited from his famous father, wore some weird masks and rocked everyone’s faces off with his insane, uniquely Claypool bass lines. Keep watching for pigs on the wing, and check out Michael McGrath’s photos of a great night here!
